Here in the Driftless Region, you will find recreational opportunities galore. They include hiking around lakes and in the Kickapoo Reserve (8600 acres), biking (road and mountain), fishing (one of the top 10 trout fishing areas in the country), ice fishing on lakes or the Mississippi River, canoeing/kayaking the famous Kickapoo River, hunting, golfing at the Viroqua Hills Country Club, biking (mountain and road), skiing, sledding, picnicking, ice skating, lots of spectacular motorcycling and much more.
WORLD CLASS TROUT FISHING
With 250 miles of classified trout water, Vernon County is as good as it gets for world class trout fishing. The Mississippi River is also a short, scenic drive away. With walleye, bass, pike, pan fish and more, this area is a true fishing haven.
HIKING
The Kickapoo Valley Reserve has an extensive system of rustic trails for equestrians, bikers, and hikers. The equestrian and mountain bike trails are open from May 1 through November 15, as weather permits. Hiking is permitted year-round on all trails. Also check out Sidie Hollow Lake and Jersey Valley Lake for more hiking.
BIKING
The Driftless area, in the southwest region of the Wisconsin, provides many trail choices for bike riders, from rugged mountain trails to challenging routes to constructed bike trails.

DOWNTOWN
Shopping in the downtown historic district is diverse. Includes upscale thrift shopping, farmers market, antique, year around public market with 100 vendors, natural fiber arts, bike shop, rock shop and boutique opportunities. Our East Side historic district boasts of a used book stor, extraordinarily housed in an 1880’s tobacco warehouse built by Fred Eckhart of the Eckhart House.
FARMER’S MARKET
The Viroqua Farmers Market is the longest running promotion of The Viroqua Chamber Main Street. Hosting more than 50 vendors, all of whom are within a 100 mile radius of Viroqua. These farmers, growers, bakers and artists are eager to tell you about their products and goods. Also, Amish families are selling their furniture, baskets, produce and many other items. Saturdays, 8:00 am – 12:30 pm, May – October.
FISHING SUPPLIES
The Driftless Angler is a full service fly shop located on the historic main street in Viroqua. With a huge selection of local flies and some of fly fishing’s finest gear chosen specifically for our fishery, let them outfit you for your trip on our local streams. Guides and fishing classes are offered.

Located on Main Street, Wonderstate Coffee (previously Kickapoo Coffee) is a 1940’s Mobil gas station turned specialty coffee shop. Sourcing and roasting the highest quality, organic coffees to the cafes, co-ops and grocery stores throughout the Upper Midwest and beyond. Opens at 7am, serves breakfast and lunch until 2pm. Open until 5 pm.
